The Police is currently questioning Tina Romano on suspicion of severe blog neglect. The suspect has a previous history of closing accounts and fleeing the blogging scene. Friends of the suspect say she's a bold and dedicated writer that just happens to go through a "phase". The officers are afraid the video quiz blog might be in danger and they are looking for more suitable administrators. The public is invited to write with suggestions and possible collaboration ideas.

Other sources revealed it might be all just a publicity stunt, as Tina is known to have a couple of aces up her sleeve at all times. They believe she's probably up to something on rockaholic.tv but the information is still scarce on the subject.

Tina Romano couldn't be reached for an official statement.

While not quite Bob Dylan at his vitriolic, satirical best, a young (teenage) Robert Smith does spew some venom toward lemmings and fashion slaves afraid to stand out and make their own statements: "Don't say what you mean/You might spoil your face/If you walk in the crowd/You won't leave any trace/It's always the same/You're jumping someone else's train." Smith, quoted on the website thecure.net, has said of the 1979 single that he was taking aim "at the mod revival at the time."

After being delayed for nearly a year, the albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II were released in September 1991. Messy but fascinating, the albums showcased a more ambitious band; while there were still a fair number of full-throttle guitar rockers, there were stabs at Elton John-style balladry, acoustic blues, horn sections, female backup singers, ten-minute art rock epics with several different sections, and a good number of introspective, soul-searching lyrics. In short, they were now making art; amazingly, they were successful at it.

Monster is indeed R.E.M.'s long-promised "rock" album; it just doesn't rock in the way one might expect. Instead of R.E.M.'s trademark anthemic bashers, Monster offers a set of murky sludge, powered by the heavily distorted and delayed guitar of Peter Buck.

Monster doesn't have the conceptual unity or consistently brilliant songwriting of Automatic for the People, but it does offer a wide range of sonic textures that have never been heard on an R.E.M. album before.

Apparently the result of alcohol-induced experimentation, Finntroll's bizarre fusion began one night in March of 1997.

After leaving Ceremonial Oath to form In Flames, founding member and guitarist Jesper Strömblad saw this project as a way of expressing his songwriting creativity rather than being stuck in the background. With the added influences of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, along with his own touch of aggressive metal that overwhelmed his home country of Sweden, Wrong Again Records took notice and released In Flames' 1993 debut, Lunar Strain.

In the tradition of many other Swedish metal acts, In Flames also had a revolving lineup that changed year after year -- not that this was going to stop them from releasing their next album, Subterranean (1994), before signing to Nuclear Blast Records in 1996.

After putting out The Jester Race album later that year, followed by 1997's Whoracle, In Flames' lineup was finally settled with Björn Gelotte (drums), Anders Fridén (vocals), Peter Iwers (bass), and Daniel Svensson (drums) in addition to Strömblad. To celebrate, the band released its sixth album, Colony, in 1999.

Clayman followed in the same vein the next year, and the band even managed to keep the same lineup for this release. The live Tokyo Showdown was released to promote their tour in 2001. Reroute to Remain arrived in 2002, followed by Soundtrack to Your Escape in 2004 and Come Clarity in 2006.

Extreme's music was never easy to classify, since it rarely confined itself to heavy metal, hard rock, or pop. The four members of Helsinki's melodically rocking the Rasmus formed the band in 1995 while still in high school because Finland's English music scene -- in their own words -- "sucked."

Their debut, Peep, rapidly went gold in their homeland, making the members rock stars at the age of 16. They quickly recorded and released the follow-up, Playboys, which also went gold and earned the group an Emma, Finland's version of a Grammy.

Their third album, Hell of a Tester, included "Liquid," a track that was voted Best Single of the Year by Finland's music critics. 2001's Into went double platinum in its native country, with its debut single, "F-F-F-Falling," going to the top of the charts. Jumping on the post-grunge industrial bandwagon with Outside didn't successfully rejuvenate David Bowie's credibility or sales, so he switched his allegiance to techno and jungle for the follow-up, Earthling.

Fortunately, Bowie sounds rejuvenated by this new form, and songs like "Little Wonder" and "Seven Years in Tibet" are far stronger than the bulk of Outside. Still, the record falls short of its goals, and it doesn't offer enough intrigue or innovations to make Earthling anything more than an admirable effort.

Though not a major commercial success, the album scored a number of positive reviews and scored a minor hit with a Trent Reznor remix of "I'm Afraid of Americans". The album featured elements not common to dance electronica, such as live acoustic and electric guitar, jazzy live piano, and song structures more common to pop-rock than techno. The album performed better than its highly experimental predecessor, Outside, reaching number 6 in the UK charts and number 39 in the US.

Ozzy Osbourne's eighth solo studio album, Down to Earth, shows the madman of rock relying on a supergroup of metal musicians to bring his sound together. Longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde is back, this time with Suicidal Tendencies bassist Robert Trujillo and Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin supplying the rhythm. Despite the ever-changing world of heavy metal, Ozzy has a strangely timeless sound that he does not stray from on this record.

Producer Tim Palmer gives it more of a grunge sheen than a heavy metal sound, which does work on some tracks but takes a little of the punch out of songs like "Junkie." Still, this has all the main ingredients of good Ozzy: a big fat Black Sabbath number ("Gets Me Through"), some wonderfully cheesy ballads ("Running Out of Time"), some tracks that can offend teenagers' parents ("Facing Hell"), and the song about how darn crazy he is ("Alive"). Sure it may be predictable, but no one looks to Ozzy to pioneer new sounds.

Anyone who liked Ozzy's output from the '90s will probably embrace this album with open arms, and anyone who does not like him will probably know to avoid this.

The foursome that came together and created Killswitch Engage already had strong fan followings. Mike D'Antonio (bass) was formerly the leader and principal songwriter of Overcast, the legendary underground metal group.

Killswitch Engage made their debut by opening for In Flames on tour. The Ferret label heard and liked the combination of brutality, sophistication, and breathtaking originality that the group produced, and signed them. Ferret released Killswitch Engage's self-titled debut album in June 2000 and it immediately began capturing rave reviews.

In 2001, Killswitch Engage signed with Roadrunner Records and started recording their second full album, Alive or Just Breathing. Tours with Soilwork and Hypocrisy finished before the band suffered a setback that June; lead singer Leach suddenly left the group, citing voice problems and personal issues.
Breaking up was not an option, but Killswitch was still unsure of their future — until auditioning Howard Jones that is, vocalist for local metalcore outfit Blood Has Been Shed. The band and Jones clicked immediately, and his charismatic yet menacing stage presence sealed the deal.

The End of Heartache appeared in spring 2004, debuting at number 21 on the Top 200 and even earning Killswitch a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Much touring followed, including acting as main support for Slayer and spots on package tours like Ozzfest and Taste of Chaos; all of this activity ultimately led up to the release of their fourth full-length, As Daylight Dies, that November.

Dave Grohl has voiced his appreciation of heavy metal numerous times over the years, whether it be trying to convince his Nirvana bandmates to have Sepultura open shows on the In Utero tour or playing with the Foo Fighters alongside Slayer, Pantera, and Black Sabbath at Ozzfest 1998 in the U.K.. But he was never so exuberant about his metal fixation until he issued the all-star project Probot in the early 21st century.

On the album, Grohl teamed up with heavy metal vocalists from 1980s and 1990s bands who influenced his musical tastes while he was growing up. Similar to 1995's Foo Fighters, Grohl wrote all of the music and performed most of the instrumentation. Each track on the album features a different lead singer including Lemmy, Max Cavalera and King Diamond.

A single would be found in the track "Shake Your Blood." Although Grohl recorded most of the instruments himself, Lemmy performed his own bass and wrote the lyrics to "Shake Your Blood." He noted, "I wrote the lyrics in about ten minutes. . . It's rock & roll, you know. It's not one of those complicated things." The song bears strong resemblance to Lemmy's style and was considered "a terrific Motörhead clone" by Adrien Begrand of PopMatters.

The "Shake Your Blood" music video was filmed in November 2003 and released shortly thereafter. It features an appearance by 66 women from the Suicide Girls adult entertainment website. In the video, the band is represented with Dave Grohl on drums, Lemmy on lead vocals and bass, and Wino (who sang on the Probot track "The Emerald Law") on lead guitar. Lemmy regarded the performance as "just like a tour in the '60s, when things were a lot more fun."

The video gained significant airplay upon its release on Headbangers Ball and is ranking #2 in the list of the best metal videos of the new millennium in a vote carried out by MTV2.

From out of nowhere, Judas Priest suddenly revitalized themselves with Painkiller, in no small part because of new drummer Scott Travis, whose busy, virtuosic rhythmic base pushes Rob Halford, K.K. Downing, and Glenn Tipton to their most energetic and impassioned performances in an extremely long time. Songs like the title track, "Leather Rebel," and "Metal Meltdown" thrash like mad; Halford's shrieking and growling is positively frightening, as he uses his incredible vocal range to an almost King Diamond-like effect.

But it isn't just the rediscovered power that makes Painkiller the band's strongest musical effort in ages: the elegant "A Touch of Evil," for example, is reminiscent of the progressive, intricately arranged pieces of their '70s work.

Few new bands have caused as much of a stir with the release of their debut single and few have, simultaneously, generated so much backlash as German hard rockers Kingdom Come did with "Get It On." Mistaken by many fans as a reunion of the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, the quintet was derisively known to some as "Kingdom Clone".

When "Get It On" was leaked to several radio stations around the U.S., it generated considerable buzz due to the speculation of the "mystery" band. The Zeppelin comparisons were enough to bolster early sales and the record shipped gold as "Get It On" became a sizable AOR hit and the band took part in the Monsters of Rock tour with acts like Van Halen and the Scorpions.

Due to Mark Oliver Everett's prolific songwriting, he landed a recording contract as a solo artist for Polydor Records. This was followed by a pair of underappreciated releases, 1992's A Man Called E (which was supported with a tour opening for Tori Amos) and 1993's Broken Toy Shop, before E left the label and formed Eels along with bassist Tommy Walter and drummer Butch Norton.

The trio inked a deal with the then-newly formed DreamWorks label and issued their debut, 1996's Beautiful Freak. The album spawned a sizable MTV/alternative radio hit with "Novocaine for the Soul," its promo clip received three MTV Video Music Award nominations the following year, and the group's popularity rose in England (resulting in a Brit Award, which was presented to the group by goof metallists Spinal Tap).

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were reunited for this song and Petty with producer Jeff Lynne, the first recording from the session which yielded the title track for the 1991 album Into the Great Wide Open.

Mike Campbell's slide guitar provides the appropriate rock & roll Hollywood-sleaze underpinning to the story about a rock star -- the so-called "rebel without a clue" in the song -- on his way to the big time.

The video for "Into the Great Wide Open" was "a piece of cake," says Petty, who was particularly satisfied with the way in which the simple narrative matches the action in the video. He calls it, "a very funny song and a very true song."

The video features Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway (on a break from the set of the film Arizona Dream). Again, Petty made career inroads with the video format that he may never have achieved with just the release of the song -- though it didn't have a big enough impact to land it in the charts. Yet "Into the Great Wide Open," with all its mythical rock & roll-life imagery, is a keeper with or without the visuals.

Velvet Revolver began with a spring 2002 jam session that reunited ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) on-stage. With the discovery that their chemistry was still going strong, the trio began pushing around some new music and auditioning singers for what became known as "the Project."

By early 2003, the existence of "the Project" -- and its quest for a singer -- was common knowledge, so much so that VH1 sent cameras to document the search. Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth, Dave Navarro) also joined up as second guitarist. Troubled STP-er Scott Weiland came on board next. He and the band clicked immediately and recorded a hyper piece of glitter metal for the Hulk soundtrack called "Set Me Free."

By June, "the Project" had been renamed Velvet Revolver.

Originally calling themselves Sahara Dust, Holland's Epica formed in early 2003 when After Forever guitarist Mark Jansen decided to break away from the group he had helped found in order to start an operatic metal project all his own.

After drafting teenaged mezzo-soprano Simone Simons, guitarist Ad Sluijter, keyboardist Coen Jansen, bassist Yves Huts, and drummer Jeroen Simons, Epica entered Wolfsburg, Germany's Gate Studio with a classically trained choir and string section to lay down their ambitious debut, The Phantom Agony.

Released by Transmission Records in late 2003, and licensed for American release by The End Records early the next year, the album spawned a number of singles and paved the way for 2005's sophomore LP, Consign to Oblivion.

I first heard these guys sometime at the end of 2007 on Bruce Dickinson's rock show at BBC Radio 6. It was after the single "Too much Too Young Too Fast" was released and it struck me as pure Ac/Dc.

Airbourne is a straightforward rock band in the Aussie pub rock tradition of AC/DC, the Angels, and Rose Tattoo: four guys with beers in hand who would rather die than be caught wearing a pink shirt.

The brothers Joel and Ryan O'Keeffe grew up in the country town of Warrnambool, with a collection of classic Australian rock albums stolen from their uncle. When everyone around them was listening to current music, they were firmly entrenched in the music of the '70s and '80s they longed to re-create. Joel took on vocals and lead guitar and Ryan the drums while still in school, earning them the enmity of their neighbors, who sent the police around with noise complaints multiple times.

For those who do not know me, I like walking instead of being stuck in traffic. I am also fortunate to work pretty close from where I live.

For over 6 months now I've been crossing paths with this fellow I started to like very much. In the beginning I was tempted to walk straight to him and slip him a note. I guess it said something about how we sometimes get this good vibe about someone just by looking in their eyes. And may I add, what beautiful eyes... The kind of eyes that show there is a person behind the stare, and even one that might have a story to tell...

I didn't give him the note though, suddenly remembering all the previous times I was impulsive and when things didn't work out quite the way I expected. We keep passing each-other by every day. We either keep looking at each-other or keep avoiding to notice each-other's presence.

The Australian garage rock band Jet is comprised of Cameron Muncey (guitar/vocals), brothers Chris Cester (drums) and Nic Cester (guitar/vocals), and Mark Wilson (bass). Hailing from Melbourne and with dreams of making it big, the foursome formed just as the new millennium was beginning. They quickly self-released the Dirty Sweet EP in 2002. The vinyl-only album, which was limited to 1,000 pressings, was an instant hit down under. Once they pressed 1,000 more, Jet was being touted in the U.K. An American deal with Elektra surfaced in early 2003 and the Dirty Sweet EP was released domestically in May. An opening slot for the Rolling Stones in Jet's homeland soon followed. The band's proper studio full-length, Get Born, appeared in November.

"Are You Gona Be My Girl?" became a radio favorite worldwide, pushing sales for Get Born near the four million mark. Jet also received seven ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) nominations, and won six of those including single and album of the year. European dates with Oasis followed in summer 2005; Shine On, the band's second effort produced by Dave Sardy, arrived in fall 2006.

Britny Fox were a typical glam-rock bar band transplanted to L.A. from their home base of Philadelphia. After making the move in 1985, they soon met Michael Kelly Smith (guitar) from up-and-coming band Cinderella, and before long the guitarist had defected from his former band to join the Philly boys' ranks. Naming themselves Britny Fox after one of singer Dizzy Dean Davison's Welsh ancestors, the band copped Cinderella's theatrical look and recorded their first demo, In America, with other members including Billy Childs on bass and Johnny Dee on drums. To show that there were no hard feelings, Cinderella helped the band get a record contract with Columbia, who released their self-titled debut to great acclaim and near-platinum sales. Lead single "Long Way to Love" made heavy rotation on MTV, but the equally rocking follow-up, "Girlschool," failed to ignite even in the specialized format of the video station's Headbanger's Ball. Nevertheless, Britny Fox won Metal Edge magazine's Best New Band award in 1988.

Featuring vocalist Randy Blythe, guitarists Mark Morton and Will Adler, bassist John Campbell, and drummer Chris Adler, the newly rechristened Lamb of God was launched in the year 2000 with their acclaimed New American Gospel album. The group then embarked on a lengthy touring spree, spending much of the next two years preaching their "pure American death metal" at major heavy metal festivals and small clubs alike. Work on a follow-up effort with producer and Strapping Young Lad mastermind Devin Townsend took place in between these many road jaunts, so that Lamb of God's sophomore LP, As the Palaces Burn, was released in summer 2003. Ashes of the Wake quickly followed it in 2004. Produced by Machine, it featured the most fully realized material of the band's career. Ashes was both a chart and critical hit and set up a year's worth of successful touring for Lamb of God. Epic also reissued Burn the Priest, their 1998 debut from their original band. With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance art standards.

Though many critics suspected Hagar wouldn't be able to sustain Van Halen's remarkable success, his first album with the band, 1986's 5150, was a huge hit, reaching number one and spawning the hit singles "Why Can't This Be Love," "Dreams," and "Love Walks In." Released in 1988, OU812 was just as successful, earning stronger reviews than its predecessor and generating the hits "When It's Love" and "Finish What You Started." For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, released in 1991, was another number one hit, partially due to the hit MTV video for "Right Now." Van Halen followed the album with their first live record, the double album Van Halen Live: Right Here, Right Now in 1993.

His band, 30 Seconds to Mars, debuted in 2002 with a self-titled effort featuring a post-grunge sound suggestive of groups like Chevelle or Incubus. 30 Seconds returned three years later with A Beautiful Lie, an emotional album thematically based around the concept of change. Hailing from Norwalk, CT, Steelheart was one of the very last hair metal bands to score a hit with a power ballad, just before Nirvana and their ilk exterminated the genre completely. Originally called Red Alert, the quartet (which included singer Michael Matijevic, guitarist Chris Risola, bassist James Ward, and drummer Frank Dicostanzo) spent most of the decade playing the tri-state area and honing their act.

After years of hard work, the band finally secured a record deal with MCA, and changed their name to Steelheart. 1991 saw the release of their self-titled debut, which spawned the hit power ballad, "Never Let You Go," which reached number 14 on the Billboard singles chart. The band quickly began work on their sophomore effort, "Tangled in Reins", which was released a year later. But tragedy was lurking just around the corner — at a Halloween show opening for Slaughter at McNichol's Arena in Denver, CO, Matijevic was struck in the head by a lighting truss, knocking him to the ground face first, and he sustained serious head injuries. Forced to take a break for their singer to recover, the musical climate had changed dramatically, resulting in the band calling it a day shortly thereafter. Joe Satriani is one of the most technically accomplished and widely respected guitarists to emerge in recent times. Born on July 15, 1956, in Westbury, NY, and raised in the nearby town of Carle Place, Satriani — inspired by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix — picked up the guitar at the age of 14 (although he was initially more interested in the drums). Quickly learning the instrument, Satriani began teaching guitar to others and found a kindred spirit in one of his students, Steve Vai.

In the early '80s, Satriani got a gig playing guitar with power popster Greg Kihn, doing some session work and touring with the group and issuing his own solo self-titled EP in 1984.But when Steve Vai hit the big time as the guitarist of David Lee Roth's solo band in 1986, he offered praise for his good friend and former teacher in several major guitar publications, leading to widespread interest in Satriani's playing. The timing couldn't have been more perfect for Satch, as he'd just issued his first full-length solo album, "Not of This Earth", which automatically made ripples in the rock guitar community.

Regarded as one of the world's premiere goth metal bands, Norway's Tristania have earned their reputation through risk-taking creativity, unquestionable talent, and perhaps more than anything else, an impressive consistency from release to release. First coming together in 1996, Tristania took the uncommon step of showcasing three separate vocalists of wildly divergent styles to represent their lyrics, these being operatic soprano Vibeke Stene, clean-singing counter-tenor Østen Bergøy, and harsh, black metal-style shrieker Morten Veland.

Tristania's eponymous EP was released in 1997, and further albums such as Widow's Weeds (1998) and Beyond the Veil (1999), as well as the Angina EP followed in quick succession, and always through Austria's Napalm label. All fared incredibly well across Europe, with Beyond the Veil in particular earning rave reviews.

The band was dealt a potentially crippling blow, however, when Veland departed to form a new band called Sirenia. Yet, they surprised cynical observers by immediately hiring new vocalist Kjetil Ingebrigtsen and rebounding in style via 2001's World of Glass. A longer hiatus followed but, after indulging in numerous side projects, Tristania reconvened in 2004 to record a new album called simply "Ashes".

White Zombie fused B-horror movie visuals and subject matter with heavy music and growled vocals. And while it was originally thought to be a full-fledged band, it would later become known that the group was almost entirely the vision of their larger-than-life singer, Rob Zombie.

Although he had long admired such theatrical metallists as Kiss and Alice Cooper (as well as such punk outfits as the Ramones), Rob wasn't quick to form a group. By 1985 however, Rob opted to pursue a career in music and united with then-girlfriend/bassist Sean Yseult and formed White Zombie (titled after the 1932 Bela Lugosi flick).

First considered a New York Underground band rather than a heavy metal band, White Zombie began incorporating industrial rock elements into their sound, which made them one of the few hard rock bands of the era that you could also dance to.

Savatage formed in Florida in 1978 as Avatar, led by brothers Jon (vocals) and Criss (guitar) Oliva. They changed their name to Savatage in 1983, pursuing a strongly Judas Priest- and Iron Maiden-influenced style of metal. They meandered between basic metal and more commercial fare before adding second guitarist Chris Caffery and hitting their stride in 1990 with "Gutter Ballet". The band showed a flair for intense, melodic hard rock, dramatic balladry, and elaborate, operatic concepts, which they pursued over their next few albums. [source]

"Streets: A Rock Opera" picked up where "Gutter Ballet" left off, taking Savatage's interest in progressive metal into a full-album concept. Based around a short story written by producer/songwriter Paul O' Neill, Streets is a diverse collection of songs about a lost soul trying to find himself in the New York City night. Although not based around real life events in the life of the band, it's obvious the group is quite attached to the material, turning out very emotional performances. Unlike many rock operas where the story suffers to further the music or vice versa, the band finds a nice compromise on Streets and is able to convey feelings of deep sorrow, elation, anger, and beauty, sometimes even on the same track. Opening with a snippet from Mozart's Magic Flute, the group quotes from a wide range of influences. "A Little Too Far" has a show tune quality to it, while the beautiful "Heal My Soul" takes its melody from an old Welsh lullaby. Both songs feature lead singer Jon Oliva alone with a piano. Savatage, who before Gutter Ballet had only written a handful of ballads, turns in several brilliant ones here, concluding with perhaps the band's greatest song, the dramatic and impassioned "Believe." That's not to say that there are not a fair share of rockers, as well. In fact, "Strange Reality," "Ghost in the Ruins," and "Jesus Saves" are among the leanest and most intense the band wrote, and Criss Oliva got more interesting as a guitar player with each successive album. While many metal guitarists seem only interested in technical displays, Oliva turns out material here that equals the heart-wrenching singing of his brother. Considering the intensity and beauty of the diverse material here, this is a fine place to start learning about this band.

Led by former Ratt guitarist Marq Torien, the L.A. metal band Bulletboys also included ex-King Kobra guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vincent, and drummer Jimmy d'Anda. Their style was strongly influenced by bands such as AC/DC and Van Halen, later going in a bluesier direction. Torien's personality often drew comparisons to David Lee Roth. The group had a couple of MTV hits off their self-titled debut but faded away after their second album. Song titles like "Do Me Raw," "Hard as a Rock," and "Kissin' Kitty" give a fairly accurate impression of the band's worldview.

Why it took three years between their debut and Freakshow is anyone's guess — perhaps these things are better left for a documentary-length special on the band — but Freakshow alters things a bit stylistically when compared to their first record. Many things have remained the same: the blues-driven, scale shredding guitar work, lyrics that would make Keats spin in his grave, and of course, the obligatory odes to feminine charm ("Do Me Raw," "Goodgirl," and "Huge") all remain constant bulletpoints (no pun intended) that keep the boys strong rockers. But unlike their first album, things do get to be more a bit on the serious side at points, and this is where the album begins to lose its charm. While the band would continue to release records, this would be their last for Warner Brothers, perhaps a reaction to the serious and sensitive music movement that was brewing on the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast around that time. Whatever the reasoning may be, this was their last solid album, as what followed in their career was merely a rehash of the latest music trends of the moment, with trace elements lurking here and there of what made the Bulletboys so fun to begin with.

Primus is all about Les Claypool; there isn't a moment on any of their records where his bass isn't the main focal point of the music, with his vocals acting as a bizarre side-show. Their music is willfully weird and experimental, yet it's not alienating; the band was able to turn their goofy weirdness into pop stardom. At first, the band was strictly an underground phenomenon, but in the years between their third and fourth albums, their cult grew rapidly.

Leaves' Eyes is a symphonic metal band with folk metal elements from Norway and Germany assembled in 2003, shortly before singer Liv Kristine was fired from Theatre of Tragedy. Leaves' Eyes was formed by her husband Alexander Krull and members of his band Atrocity. The band combines atmospheric, metal and classical elements. The vocals of Liv Kristine are occasionally backed up by death grunts from Krull, but most of the time she sings alone.

Singer-songwriter Kory Clarke has Important Statements to make. In rock & roll, that's dangerous -- it risks sounding pretentious and self-indulgent. On his band Warrior Soul's 1990 debut, "Last Decade Dead Century", Clarke often fell into that trap, but now with his band's second album, he has thankfully found a balance between social consciousness and just plain rocking out. "Drugs, God and the New Republic" paints a bleak world of crooked politicians, corrupt media, and deteriorating ozone layers -- in other words, the uglier aspects of modern-day life -- but songs like the semiautobiographical "The Wasteland" and the funky, hard-hitting "Real Thing" also have great melodies and danceable rhythms. In addition, the brutal lullaby of the title track and the folky introspection of "Hero" make you realize that Clarke actually believes the world can be changed through rock & roll. Aaron was born in Belleville, Ontario, as Karen Lynn Greening. She started her professional career early, appearing on a televised musical variety show when she was only 15-years-old. Two years later, around 1979, Greening became a member of a little-known band called Lee Aaron. She served as both a keyboardist and backup singer for the group. Over time, Greening was moved from backup singer to lead. She also took the band's name, Lee Aaron, as hers. A short time later she went solo, hiring Rick Santers and his band to work with her. In 1982 she completed her first album, The Lee Aaron Project.

Aaron's sophomore album, Metal Queen, was released in 1984 under the Attic Records label. The superb album left her with the nickname "Metal Queen" and also caused more than a little controversy. It was banned in Australia and given an R rating from the BBC. Still, with the help of a video and maybe some help from the controversy itself, the title track became Aaron's first big hit.

Although Tesla emerged during the glory days of hair metal, they never completely fit the spirit of the times. Their music was well-produced pop-metal, to be sure, but they never indulged in the glammed-up excess that made cartoons out of many of their peers. Instead, Tesla's music was bluesy, no-frills, '70s-style hard rock; it concentrated more on solid musicianship than enormous, arena-ready choruses (or hairdos), and it had a noticeable grit — not so much the urban sleaze of Guns N' Roses, but a grounded attitude and a genuine affection for old-school hard rock. Despite their refreshing lack of posturing, Tesla was just as hard-hit as the rest of the pop-metal world when grunge wiped out classic-style hard rock, but they did produce one of the more respectable bodies of work of the era.

When former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale re-emerged with a new version of Whitesnake in 1984, the band sounded revitalized and energetic. "Slide It In" may have relied on Led Zeppelin's and Deep Purple's old tricks, but the band had a knack for writing hooks; the record became their first platinum album. Three years later, Whitesnake released an eponymous album (titled "1987" in Europe) that was even better. "Still of the Night" was a dead ringer for early Zeppelin — but the group could write powerful, heavy rockers like "Here I Go Again" that were driven as much by melody as riffs, as well as hit power ballads like "Is This Love."

For 1989's "Slip of the Tongue" Coverdale assembled a completely new version of the band, featuring guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. Although the record went platinum, it was a considerable disappointment after the success of the previous Whitesnake album (1987). "Slip of the Tongue" wasn't as successful because the band's songs weren't as catchy and the riffs weren't as powerful.

Soul Asylum are the quintessential little band that could; it only took ten years to turn them from a teenage garage band into multi-platinum-selling rock stars. Soul Asylum's breakthrough, million-selling "Grave Dancer's Union" yielded the mega-hit "Runaway Train" and put the band in a whole new league; longtime fans were predictably disappointed with the slick results. This is a solid alternative rock record with singer/songwriter/vocalist Dave Pirner upfront, a role he was built for but always seemed to resist until this clear do-or-die moment for the band. Soul Asylum did; however, they never matched the success or consistency of this album. Tracks like "Home Sick" and "New World" bear the roots of the country-rock revival later forged by Son Volt and Wilco, while the angst-ridden "Somebody to Shove" is pure joy Soul Asylum-style.

In the late '80s, ex-Journey guitarist Neal Schon teamed up with ex-Babys vocalist John Waite and other arena rock veterans to form Bad English. One of the last supergroups of the decade, they made power ballads like there was no tomorrow, and they did it better than most because Waite could carry a tune and Schon created the power ballad prototype during his years in Journey. In late 1989/early 1990, the group scored two huge hit singles — "When I See You Smile" and "Price of Love" — and were big draws in concert. However, the follow-up album, "Backlash", experienced one of massive proportions, failing to have even one Top 40 hit. The band called it quits soon after its release.

WIRED ALL WRONG "Elevatin"

And now just a tid bit of info, so you know what to say if I ever ask about this video in a future contest to be:

A collaboration between Jeff Turzo (God Lives Underwater, Paul Oakenfold) and Matt Mahaffey (sElf, Beck), Wired All Wrong's origins are the result of a happy accident. As a result of mislabeling video credits on the MTV program 120 Minutes, the two bands became friends and often would tour with one another. After the breakup of God Lives Underwater, Turzo began recording tracks for the Wired All Wrong project. In the meantime, sElf had just been released from their contract from Dreamworks Records, as the label dissolved shortly after its inception. Mahaffey then gave Turzo a disc of unreleased music and Wired All Wrong eventually morphed into a collaborative effort. Wired All Wrong -- the rock producer supergroup -- was born from the untimely deaths of former writing partners David Reilly & Mike Mahaffey in 2005. Their debut album, Bring Out the Battletapes, was released on Nitrus Records in September 2006.

Best music around at the moment, if you ask me - that being the reason I joined forces with them in the first place. A legendary live band that arguably never managed to translate its electric on-stage intensity into its studio albums, Y&T stood within reach of the Grail of rock & roll stardom many times in their long career — but through a series of mistakes, bad timing, and sheer bad luck, the ultimate prize always seemed to elude them in the end. Taking their name from a Beatles song, the group was originally formed as Yesterday & Today in San Francisco, around 1973, by vocalist and lead guitarist Dave Meniketti, bassist Phil Kennemore, and drummer Leonard Haze. After stealing rhythm guitarist Joey Alves from a rival band, the group began to gig constantly around the Bay Area, opening for such heavyweights as Journey and the Doobie Brothers, while building a strong local following.

By the time Y&T released "Ten" in 1990, they were well past their prime, but they at least had the chance of riding the tail end of the hair-metal era. However, Ten just didn't deliver the goods. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" has a good riff, but much of the record lacks a strong hook — it's just well-produced, slick mainstream metal without much style or flair. It's no surprise that the group packed it in (albiet temporarily) shortly after the release of Ten.

As out of control as glam rock got in the late '80s, few artists could top the levels of debauchery and excess achieved by England's Dogs d'Amour. Led by singer, guitarist, songwriter and warped poet Tyla, the group's albums never caught on with a wider mainstream audience, but became cult favorites in their homeland. Initially based in Birmingham, Tyla started the band in 1983 with singer Ned Christie, guitarist Nick Halls, bassist Karl Watson, and drummer Bam Bam, before heading to London, where they played their first show on April 12th. When Christie quit later that year, Tyla took over lead vocals before packing the entire band off to Finland (presumably riding the coattails of Europe's most promising would-be glam superstars of the time, Hanoi Rocks).

One of the first acts signed to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst's label, Flawless Records, was the alt-metal quartet Puddle of Mudd — consisting of Wesley Scantlin (guitar and vocals), Paul Phillips (guitar), Douglas Ardito (bass), and Greg Upchurch (drums). While their songs expectedly contain the rage of such contemporaries as Korn and Rage Against the Machine, Scantlin's voice at times is eerily similar to Nirvana's late, great frontman, Kurt Cobain, containing unmistakable elements of traditional hard rock (unlike the other aforementioned band's penchant for rap). August 2001 saw the release of their major-label debut, Come Clean (which was preceded by the independent release Abrasive), as they embarked on a European tour with Godsmack a month later, before touring the U.S. as part of the Family Values 2001 tour, alongside Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, and Staind. The band subsequently remained somewhat busy, releasing Life on Display in 2003 and Famous in 2007.

Plant and Page didn't invite bassist John Paul Jones to join the reunion, choosing to assemble a band comprised of studio musicians. No Quarter performed respectably and the duo's subsequent 1995 tour was a sold-out success, prompting them to take a stab at a studio project. In 1997, they hired indie rock producer Steve Albini to work on their collection of new original songs; it was the first time Page chose to work with an outside producer. The resulting album, Walking Into Clarksdale, was released to generally good reviews in the spring of 1998.

One of the unlikeliest success stories in rock at the turn of the millennium, Detroit rap-rocker Kid Rock shot to superstardom with his fourth full-length album, 1998's "Devil Without a Cause". What made it so shocking was that Rock had recorded his first demo a full decade before, been booted off major label Jive following his Beastie Boys-ish 1990 debut, Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast, and toiled for most of the decade in obscurity, releasing albums to a small, devoted, mostly local fan base while earning his fair share of ridicule around his home state. Nevertheless, Rock persevered, and by the time rap-metal had begun to attract a substantial audience, he had perfected the outlandish, over-the-top white-trash persona that gave Devil Without a Cause such a distinctive personality and made it such an infectious party record.

Meet MINDBOMB, blending industrial, funk and psychedelia into heavy metal. They were fromerly known as "Daisy Chain", an alternative psychedelic rock act. Matt Mercado, the frontman, is nowadays involved in a project called "Supermercado".

Few rock groups of the '80s broke down as many musical barriers and were as original as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Creating an intoxicating new musical style by combining funk and punk rock together (with an explosive stage show, to boot), the Chili Peppers spawned a slew of imitators in their wake, but still managed to be the leaders of the pack by the dawn of the 21st century.
